Department of the Interior and Local Government

Our Mandate

Assist the President in the exercise of general supervision over local governments.

Advise the President on policies, rules, regulations, and other issuances concerning general supervision over local governments and public order and safety.

Establish and prescribe issuances that implement laws on public order and safety, general supervision, local autonomy, and community empowerment, and monitor compliance.

Provide assistance toward legislation concerning local governments, law enforcement, and public safety.

Establish plans, policies, programs, and projects that promote peace and order, ensure public safety, and strengthen the administrative, technical, and fiscal capabilities of local government offices and personnel.

Formulate plans, policies, and programs that respond to local emergencies arising from natural and human-caused disasters.

Build coordination and cooperation among citizens, local executives, and the Department to support effective and efficient delivery of basic services.

Organize, train, and equip a police force that is national in scope and civilian in character, primarily for the performance of police functions.
